Software Solution Design Lead

Do you want an opportunity to design new and exciting software for today’s market? Become a key member of C4i Consultants as a Software Solution Design Lead and be part of designing and developing the next generation of our innovative software products. Candidates are required to have broad experience and technical knowledge to create design documents and recommend technical architecture for a complex software solution. The Software Solutions Design Lead is required to provide technical leadership related to common component development initiatives and support the various engineering and technical disciplines found within C4i.

This position will work with a team of professionals and be responsible for producing the technical software architecture, data design, major third-party component selection, as well as project documentation within timelines agreed to on the project plans and have these reviewed and approved with the appropriate stakeholders. In developing the System Design Document, the Software Solution Design Lead will provide work estimates and assign roles to activities, all within the service levels agreed to. This contract position also requires the successful candidate to demonstrate skills in communication, influence, cross-functional group collaboration and coordination.

The successful candidate will be the key resource that will support the development of a constructive simulation GIS software tool. This software tool, ePlan-GIS, will be designed to significantly reduce the amount of time, cost and effort required to assemble and execute a table top Emergency Response Planning exercise for the Energy industry.

Key Accountabilities: 
The Software Solution Design Lead approaches the solution from a Business, Functional, Technical, and Implementation perspective. This may involve hardware, operating system, third party solutions, and data design activities. It is expected that this position will provide support to the application developers in defining the road map to the application solution design. 

• Provide solution design alternatives obtained from story boards designed by the ePlan-GIS Team members in consultation with our customers.  The design would then be deployed in the solution. 
• Provide estimates for development activities and work with the ePlan-GIS Team to confirm these estimates 
• Present a solution, estimates and activities to deploy the solution to the ePlan-GIS Team and Executive so that an overall schedule to deliver the product can be created. 
• Ensure that the solution presented conforms to the standards and approved technologies positioned by the ePlan-GIS Team and in alignment with C4i development standards and C4i development processes.
• Provide support during project execution and produce the technical design documents for the ePlan-GIS Team related to builds and deliverables. 
• Mentor and coach other team members on technical issues. Provide suggestions for viable solutions to highly complex technical problems. 
• Participate and be responsible for assigned continuous improvement activities within the ePlan-GIS Team.
• Keep abreast of the technology roadmap and vision as defined and prescribed by the Executive of C4i and apply experience with development and evaluation of system architecture design.
• Transfer ownership of the ePlan-GIS solution design and implementation plan to the project manager and the technical leads on the ePlan-GIS project/product team. 
  

Specific Skill Requirements:

• University Degree or College Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science and/or Geography supplemented with demonstrated experience.
• Experience with RIA technologies such as Flex and Silverlight
• 5+ years object-oriented application development experience (ESRI product experience ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, ArcObjects would be an asset)
• Proficiency in mapping APIs
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills with strong technical writing experience
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Ability to achieve Secret (Level 2).
• Detail oriented
• Demonstrated experience gathering, analyzing and documenting user requirements and design specifications
• Effective time management and organization skills
• Customer focused.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
